Britt and Derek Lapiska went to a large high school together. They played in different bands in basements that did lots of yelling. They were in Seussical the Musical together but never in the same scenes. They shared similar friends and Derek often referred to Britt as the "Bird Girl" from her role in the Jungle of Nool. However, they didn't ever speak to each other until six years later in a dive bar named the Puss and Boots. They spent that night looking for the Big Dipper and messaging each other from their flip phone about how they always thought each other was cute.
After that night they spent much of their time together. They went on lots of camping trips down the East and West coast. They rode bikes together, drank lots of beer, and made it a mission to find the best food in every area they visited. In a few months they had moved in together. They talked early on about opening up a food truck that served takes on their favorite dishes. Then came love, then came marriage, then came babies... Then came another move to a town they found themselves in frequently. The house turned out to be commercially zoned and the two began the work with the city, ABC special officers, architects, engineers, and the Department of Health to redesign the space into one that they would be proud to share with the community.
Bird Girl Bottle Shop aims to deliver carefully curated craft beer, wine, and a rotating selection of pizzas. With a casual welcoming atmosphere and a focus on building community - BGBS plans to share local musicians and artisans on the weekends.
Bird Girl is a spot for everyone.
